Friends don’t let friends use Papryus.

At least they are not using Comic Sans. That would get a wicked visceral reaction!

I’ve seen too many congregations that used the Papryus font in their bulletin, mainly to evoke feelings about the timelessness of the Christian message. Worse yet, restaurants that want to have an upscale image would use that overused font in their menu. Stop it, guys. When even the creator complains about overuse, you know that is time to use a more appropriate font.

Let me recommend a good font site. I usually buy fonts from MyFonts.com and look at the specials. A 25 dollar investment can do great wonders with printed material.

Off to Penguicon

I’ll be helping out the Ohio Linuxfest guys with publicity, so I’ll be busy all weekend. Will be offline most of the time, but will be fully back in the saddle this Monday. In the meantime, enjoy this light-hearted theme from Disney’s Robin Hood.

Game over, Senator Stevens.

Senator Stevens and the Tubes!

Here’s the reference and how the now-defeated Senator may have been correct.

[mis]Guidance Theatre #1

I have not been at the blog, as I had the usual load of stuff. Thank goodness I can take a break.

At the old loud purple incarnation of CarolRutz.com, I used to have a section known as “Parental Misguidance Theatre”, in which I play old clips of educational films. I grew up watching them at school, on KLCS-58, and KRCA-62 when it had their Asian programming format. They were required to air an hour of educational programming each day, so they aired educational films.

I wonder whether kids today get to watch them in class with the film projector running or whether they get to see the AIT-style programming via videotapes. Thank goodness the Internet Archive is keeping stock of these films so we can amuse ourselves and the next generation. And I’m restarting my educational film feature on this blog.

To kick off this feature, here is this really funny film of the 70s about doing dangerous dares. I saw this one for the first time on KLCS in the 90s. The sibs and I were in stitches over the kids’ antics. And it does not have an ending except the ending that you provide yourself. Did she or did she not? Hope you enjoy this.

Video Game Junkie

From the bowels of Fark, an article about a Canadian kid who ran away after his dad took away his Xbox.

Some Farker mentioned this funny SNL clip from the 80s. Figured that I should share this with you. (Tip of the hat to Farker JesterGirl for this gem.)

The Emperor is Dead, Long Live Lelouch

Weeaboo Alert!

The final turn of Code Geass R2: Lelouch of the Rebellion is simply satisfying, a fitting end to this series. I do not know whether Sunrise will do a bonus episode wrapping up loose ends. It will help me figure out whether CC will finally be granted her wish.

I think that Lelouch has really died, no immortality gained by any Code and certainly not driving the hay cart. When CC was talking at the end, she is talking to him who is in the spirit world, like how the Emperor Charles communicated to the late Prince Clovis.

I can imagine the conversation between Jeremiah and Anya after the assassination:

Anya: But now what should I do?
Jeremiah: I ask the same question myself. War has lost that honor and prestige.
A: And there is not much work right now for a girl who knows how to use a Knightmare Frame.
J: Guilford suggested this idea to me…
*tosses orange to Anya*

A side note: how many of us noticed that the Empress still has her disability? A far cry from the BS idea that the disabled cannot lead. And speaking of Nunally: I bet a collective PHWOAR was shouted when she was in chains and wearing that red dress. The cosplay tailors will be very busy.

Want to get your own QR Code?

A QR Code is a 2-D matrix code. It’s more than a barcode: it’s a way for mobile phones to access more information. I made my QR Code so that a camera mobile phone with the software installed can access my blog.

Kaywa has a QR Code generator and you can embed text, an URL, or a phone number. Print it on your business cards and you can have a “mini resume”.

Final Turn of Code Geass R2 Tonight

WEEABOO ALERT!

They already have the unsubbed episode online. But due to my lack of Japanese proficiency*, I’ll be waiting tonight. By that time, I’ll be ready with pizza for dinner. (But not from Pizza Hut. Sorry, CC.)

*I know a few words, and I can recognize “onii-sama” [what Nunnally calls Lelouch-- her "Elder Brother"] and “onee-sama” ["elder sister", as used in the "Class S" schoolgirl drama The Virgin Mary Is Watching You].

Got QR Code?

Yours truly does. Will print it on my business cards.
